My help

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭121:1-8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

My help

Many months ago, I last encountered this passage. I had just begun this odyssey of sharing my thoughts with others concerning what the Lord was bringing to my mind and heart. That seems so long ago, in another world, at another time, in a different normal. So much has happened since then, and so much more will happen in the near future.

At that time, my focus was heavenward, but tempered with day to day reality. There were no crises, no COVID-19 lockdown, and each day was just another day, in a succession of days. When I looked forward, I was not expecting anything. Today I wake up expectant, for I sense that my redemption draweth nigh.

It is with urgency that I look to the hills, from which my help comes from, as the world around me seems to be crumbling. The words hold life for me, much more than when I last read of them. I am leaning on the Lord for help in all ways. I need the assurance that my Lord is aware of all that is happening, and has His glorious plan in place.

In these perilous times, we can look to the hills and know that our God is in control. He is beyond the result of an election, the advancement of a virus, the political strife in the streets. He is sovereign God, Creator of all things. He made the heavens and the earth and all that is in it.

My brothers and sisters, I urge you to be about the Father’s business, and share the Gospel with all that you can. It is time to get out of your comfort zone and tell people about Jesus. Tell them of the God/Man who left heaven, to come to earth as one of us, to live a sinless life, and die a sinners death, to pay for the sins of humanity. Tell them of the free gift of God’s grace, of forgiveness of sins. The gift is waiting, but they must receive it. This is a limited time offer.

For most of my christian life, eschatology, the study of last things was like a big puzzle poured out on vast table. The pieces are all spilled out and disconnected. in the last few months, I have seen pieces come together, and begin to show the picture of the return of the Lord. I read an article out of Israel where the major orthodox rabbis stated that they had met their Messiah and were having meetings with him. Last night, I saw a video. I don’t know if he is the one or not, but hopefully, I won’t find out. It is just one more indication that I must keep my eyes on the hills.

Believers, keep your eyes on the hills today and everyday. We are seeing time roll up like a carpet right before us. Seek the Lord today, pray for each other, exhort each other and pursue holiness.

“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭46:1-3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  1. Oh my! Psalm 46 is such a good old friend. I have prayed for you today Bernie, and hope to encourage you.
Psalms 46:10-11 (ESV) 10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” 11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
