“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.””
Hebrews 3:12-15 NKJV
The pressure is building. Each day another thing happens in my world, that draws my attention and fills me with dread and worry. I find myself acting on impulse, and trying to deal with whatever is happening by my own will. As the pressures build, it is very tempting to resort to a heart of unbelief, to depart from the spiritual things, and be wrapped up in the temporal. It is almost second nature to put one’s spiritual life in a vest pocket, pat it for luck, and go on about the business of real life, never considering the power in the pocket.
All praise be to God, my life has been a firehose, with so many things coming at me, that I cannot cope by my own strength. I have been brought to the end of myself, and I am dependent on the Lord. In all the things I have dealt with, I have the blessing of a very interactive God, who exhorts me by His Holy Spirit, and does not allow me the option to depart from my faith.
I take the exhortation of the Lord and I pass it on to others. He uses my gift of encouragement, to encourage me. I do my part by intentionally seeking the Lord each morning, and making it a priority to pray, to read His word, and worship. He is my priority as I live my life, because I can’t serve others without Him. I admit that God has made it simple for me. I am alone. He has taken the loss of all things for me, and made it gain for all that I serve.
Believers, seek the Lord intentionally today. Make it a habit to seek the Lord early and often, especially in the strange days that we are in. It is easy to fall into unbelief, to place one’s spiritual life on the back burner, but there is danger. It becomes a habit, it opens one to sin, and one’s heart can be hardened. It doesn’t happen suddenly, but a little at a time, compromise by compromise, until one becomes backslid, and caught up in sin.
I try and keep sight of that early relationship I had with the Lord. I remember the way I sought Him in the past and how He moved my life. I remember the day Jesus entered my crumbling life and saved me from my sin. I fall in love all over again., day after day!
When I think back to how I used to be, I am reminded of the miracle He has done for me. It makes me all the more intentional in the pusuit of my faith. I don’t want to lose that knowledge of the holy.
Believers, remember that you are witnesses, ambassadors of the Most High God. We are living a in a world that is dire need of the message of the Gospel. We must present it with devotion and passion.
For those of you who do not know Jesus, God loves you so much that He sent His Son as a ransom for the sins of us all. Through Jesus, you can be saved from the penalty of that sin, which is spiritual death and eternity in hell. Ask Him to forgive your sins today.
