“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, to which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.”
II Timothy 1:8-12 NKJV
There will come a day soon when declaring the the truth of the Gospel in America will be met with scorn, imprisonments, torture, and death. We will join the saints of the ages who faithfully shared the story of Christ on the cross paying for sin, of His burial and resurrection, and were persecuted for their trouble. We will be the outcasts, the fringe element, the people seemingly out of touch with the patterns of this present world. It will be so tempting to remain silent, to avoid the attacks that could come as we seek to share Jesus.
Timothy was facing some of the same things as we face today. From Paul’s letters I sense that he was reluctant. Paul urges him to share the Gospel no matter what, to share in his sufferings for that Gospel according to the power of God. When we go out, we must remember that we do not go forth in weakness, but in strength, driven and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We speak of Jesus who abolished death, and provided eternal life in heaven. We bring the hope of change that only God can bring.
We are living in a world that is passing away right before our eyes, as forces on either side of the political and social aisle are burning bridges, connections, between fellow human beings, thus creating a divide that WILL destroy America. God is showing all who believe, that time is short, that we are not of this world, that our true citizenship is in heaven. It is time to be bold, to share to evangelize the lost.
Those among us who do not know the Lord are clinging to a ship that is sinking. In desperation, they are hanging on to a dream turned nightmare, and victory becoming loss. We must go out and unashamedly share the story of one Jesus Christ, of the testimonies of our own salvation. People need to hear what God has done for us. We know that God is faithful, that He is able to keep what we have entrusted to Him.
I know the emotions that Paul felt as he shared his message with Timothy. This letter is Paul’s death bed testimony. Soon after this, he would be beheaded at the order of Nero. He was in twilight. I too am in twilight, as God has given me voice and opportunity to sum up all that He has done in my life. Whether, with the undertaker, or the Uppertaker, I have a destiny in heaven. If you are born again, you too are in twilight. We all sense that our time is short, that we must be about the sharing of the Gospel while we have time left. Know that the stars are coming out.
Make today, the day you go out and share your testimony with someone. Pray that the Lord send you someone with a life like yours used to be. I am blessed to be able to remember what I was like before Jesus saved me. I see myself in the lives of others I encounter. I am thankful when the Lord grants me the opportunity to tell the story of that great salvation that saved my soul.
I know that there are more than a few people on my facebook who marvel at what they read, for they knew back then. To them I write: Jesus can save you too. Eternity is coming, either through judgement or death. Do not go into eternity on the wrong side.
Things are happening in our world that will not stop regardless of who wins. Those in the streets desire to burn down the system, and rebuild it in their own image. It is time for God’s people stand in the light that remains.
“I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.””
John 9:4-5 NKJV
““You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.”
Matthew 5:14-15 NKJV
