“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:10-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:17-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I remember watching COPS long ago. My dad and I loved that show and we watched it together on Saturday nights. I watched weekly as the officers dealt with difficult people under a variety of situations. Periodically they had to deal with really unruly folks, bent on being out of control and determined to cause harm. On one episode, there was this big, beligerent white guy who had been drinking. He blustered on about his strength and his ability to handle the cops. He was a bad man.

One of the officers pulled out his taser and shot the man. Soon this big, deep voiced man, gave out a “girlie scream” and fell to the ground. I always laugh when I see that to this day, as it is one of the scenarios in the opening of the show. This man, completely relying on his flesh was no match for the power of the taser.

I harken back to my own feeling of power, the sense that I was impervious to anything the world, or even God could send my way. I withstood much, but when it came time to face God, I let out my own “girlie scream”. i cried for mercy, I cried out for salvation. my sin had overcome me. It took the Sword of the Spirit to get me under control.

God’s word is an offense weapon.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Like the voltage of the taser, the power of the word penetrated every fiber of my being, causing me to yield control, as it brought me to my knees. It convicted me of my sin, exposed my weakness, and attacked all the areas of pride in my life. I marvel at the tendency for God to show me just what I need to see, at any given moment. The word provides the insight and reaches my heart.

When I consider the times that we are in, I am reminded day after day, that only the word of God can change the society. Only it can bring true justice, can save the country. It is a time for those of us who call upon the name of the Lord, to be strapped with the word of God and willing to deploy it.

Time is short, my brothers and sisters. We must be about rescuing as many from the fires to come, and planting seeds in those who will be left to share the Gospel after we have been caught away.

Jesus is coming soon!

It is time to sharpen your sword skills, to hone the barbs of the taser that they stick, that the words of God’s taser sink deep into the soft tissues of the souls, that the full power be felt.

It is also time to pray. All of the equipment I have been writing about is useless if we are not communicating. I love listening to my scanner! Especially the car chases that end with the driver trying to escape of foot. The officer’s communiocate and triangulate, with the dispatcher and each other, as they locate the suspect. God is the ultimate dispatcher. Unlike the earthly one, He knows who we need to find and where they are. We pray and He gives us insights, that help us to be sensative to the move of the Spirit in someone’s life. He then goes before us and works in the heart of those he sends us to, that they respond to the saving Good News.

Let us deploy the sword of the Spirit, and pray for opportunities in these last days.

THE PRAYER CHAIR IS OPEN! Send me your requests!
