“Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the LORD! Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, And will not call back His words, But will arise against the house of evildoers, And against the help of those who work iniquity. Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; And their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, Both he who helps will fall, And he who is helped will fall down; They all will perish together.”
Isaiah 31:1-3 NKJV
It is political season. People are getting giddy and rallying behind their chosen savio…, I mean candidate. Our country is facing a vast array of things that have caused the average citizen to look for help from someone, anyone. In bible times, kings facing a great war against more powerful opponents, would seek alliances with others to gain the victory. In the passage I read today it referred to seeking such an aliance with Egypt. For the New Testament believer, Egypt is a type for sin or the flesh. There is woe to running for help from other people, and ignoring God. They will always let you down.
Many people are counting the days until the next general election, when they are hoping that their candidate will deliver them from the enemy. They fail to realize that the people who they are laying their hopes in are mere mortals. People fail, they come up short. They change. Never put your faith in a lame duck who has nothing to lose. Never put your faith in a politcal “has been” who is clinging to relevance, and is being used by party extremists. If ever there was a time to focus on the Lord it is now.
I can tell you that people will let you down. I have been let down more times than I care to admit. I make it a point to avoid relying on others unless I absolutely have to because people have repeatedly failed me. Humans are frail, and we change. We all have our own priorities. I have learned to run to God in time of trouble, and I seek Him for everything. I lay my need before Him and I leave it there. I have had this lesson drilled into my head and heart by much hardship. Time and time again, my true Savior, has delivered me.
We serve a faithful God who does not flip, who does not suffer progressive mental incapacities, or is capricious, or responds to criticism as a spoiled child. He is stable and He is present. Though I wish pain on no one, I must say that I have been shown the glory of God through my suffering. I am glad for every sickness, every pain, every slight and all the struggle.
Believers, cast your cares upon the Lord. He is faithful. He knows the future of this country and the world. He knows your next breath and your last. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. He is faithful. I am one who has laid everything at His feet and am trusting Him because there are few that are anyway near as faithful as He has proven to be.
Throughout these times, I have had a set of verses running through my consciousness: Psalm 118:8-9
“It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in princes.”
Psalms 118:8-9 NKJV
These verses have been a warning for me in the terrible times. It is so tempting to seek the man or woman who we feel can deliver us, regardless of our political stances. Time and time again, we have failed. This is an urgent call to the people of God to seek the Lord. We must pray believing, share the Good News, and be the Bride of Christ in a time when flesh is king.
Be the people of God.
Eternity is calling, the end of what we hold d dear is approaching. We may never come this way again. Now is the time to stand and proclaim, kneel and pray, and seek the only true help, that is in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Cast your vote for the man of your choice, but put your faith in Jesus.
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
I Peter 5:6-7 NKJV
