“Fools, because of their transgression, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted. Their soul abhorred all manner of food, And they drew near to the gates of death. Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!”
Psalms 107:17-21 NKJV
The past few days have been tremendously difficult. All of the things I had taken for granted were taken away in the blowing wind. I spent the past three days in darkness and isolation as I had no electricity and no internet on my phone. Even in the depth of this great struggle, I had the word of God. I sat in my livingroom reading my bible by flashlight until the sun came up.
That reality, that the word of God was with me, even when everything was gone, gave me endurance to withstand the struggle. The word of God sustains me, each day as I face trouble. He reminds me of the great truths and consistent message of my great God who sustains me in everything.
During the first morning of the darkness, I read through Psalm 107. I read and enjoyed the passage, then I was struck. “He sent His word and healed them.” Wow! I sat back and reflected for some time on that sentence. We are living in a sinful world that is in so much pain and trevail. People are suffering, and looking for relief in all the wrong places. Looking at the sum of all circumstances we are facing, one can say that we are surely being afflicted.
I think God put me in that moment of darkness and powerlessness to show me the great truth. In that stillness, I sat and had time to really soak up the Scripture. He sent His Word and He heals us. He sent Jesus, His word, to bring the healing that is the forgiveness of sin. We are striving day after day to attempt to make life new, to fix the things that ail us. The only true healing comes through Christ.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
John 1:1-5 NKJV
To make the world new, correct the wrongs, we must have the input of the One who made it all in the first place. He has come to save and to heal. I urge you, brothers and sisters to take some time today and began asking God to show you how you can make Him known. He is the glorious healer, the only true God, Savior to the world. The Gospel is a message that must go out.
Our world is crying out for healing. God has already responded when He sent His Word!
