“And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. Then Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said: “O LORD God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God. Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands, and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were not gods, but the work of men’s hands—wood and stone. Therefore they destroyed them. Now therefore, O LORD our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD God, You alone.””
‭‭II Kings‬ ‭19:14-19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Now because of this King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, prayed and cried out to heaven. Then the LORD sent an angel who cut down every mighty man of valor, leader, and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned shamefaced to his own land. And when he had gone into the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down with the sword there.”
‭‭II Chronicles‬ ‭32:20-21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Order and delivery

I find a lesson in contrasts as I read through the bible. I am able to see the vanity of man and the omnipotence of God. So often I have found myself like my biblical forerunners, getting caught up in the problems of the world. I struggle, become consumed and lose sleep over all the things that could happen, have happened, and could possibly get worse. After great struggle I take it to the Lord.

Hezekiah was in such a situation. He had gotten a threatening letter from Sennacherib, and he found himself thinking of the situation through the flesh. Finally, he laid out the letters and presented them to the Lord.

What I noticed today was the difference in the point of view of our problems from our perspective and God’s. The difference in the II Kings and II Chronicles is that the former is from the perspective of humanity, and the latter, the perspective of God. Hezekiah, struggled, finally prayed. From God’s view, the answer was delivered immediately.

I derive great peace from knowing that my God is answering my prayers as they are uttered. The timing of the delivery is left up to the omniscience of the Lord. He knows the end from the beginning, and knows when to give the answer.

Believers, take comfort in knowing that your God hears you. You have the access to the God of the Universe through Jesus Christ, who died to pay for your sins, who was buried, and rose again so that you can have newness of life. Jesus has given you entree to the Father. He hears your prayers.

In these increasingly unstable times, we have the absolute stability of our eternal God. Go into each day, seeking Him. Approach each trial knowing that Christ is for you! Every day brings another threatening letter from the evil one, another devious promise that our world will never be the same. Take those to the altar and leave them with the Lord. I am learning daily to do that.

I am listening to My Redeemer’s love, by Sovereign Grace Music. Amazing how the Lord consistently gives me the right background music for a given passage as I write.

“My Redeemer’s love is stronger
Than my fiercest enemies
He will hold me in the tempest
Through the flood He carries me
My Redeemer’s love will lead me
Through the deepest valley here
He will shepherd me and guide me
He will ever keep me near”
-Songwriters: Mark Altrogge / Jordan Kauflin / Joel Sczebel

He is in the darkness of your worst moment, the pain of your deepest wound. He is waiting at the end of the storm, He is in the storm with you.

When you seek Him, He hears you and will delivery you. He is faithful!

“My Redeemer’s love grows sweeter
As eternity draws near
I’ll enjoy His love forever
At His throne for endless years
My Redeemer’s love will fill me
On the day I see His face
I will love Him back forever
And forever sing His praise”
-Songwriters: Mark Altrogge / Jordan Kauflin / Joel Sczebel
