“Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD, And whom You teach out of Your law; That You may grant him relief from the days of adversity, Until a pit is dug for the wicked. For the LORD will not abandon His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance. For judgment will again be righteous, And all the upright in heart will follow it. Who will stand up for me against evildoers? Who will take his stand for me against those who do wickedness? If the LORD had not been my help, My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence. If I should say, “My foot has slipped,” Your lovingkindness, O LORD, will hold me up. When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul. Can a throne of destruction be allied with You, One which devises mischief by decree? They band themselves together against the life of the righteous And condemn the innocent to death. But the LORD has been my stronghold, And my God the rock of my refuge. He has brought back their wickedness upon them And will destroy them in their evil; The LORD our God will destroy them.”
Psalms 94:12-23 NASB
This morning is dark. Last night was full of thunder booms and wind and rain. I find the storms to be calming. Give me a great storm at night, and I sleep extremely well. For many, the bad weather is very troubling. All of the “what if’s “ fill ones mind and it is hard to sleep.
Our world is in the midst of a storm. I have been keeping an eye on China these days. Though not in the media, that country is going through its own mini tribulation. They have had forty plus days of rain, earth quakes, locusts eating up crops, the coronavirus, coming bubonic plague and a looming swine flu outbreak. It is truly dark there. I have read of my Chinese brothers and sisters in the Lord being imprisoned, tortured, some having organs harvested while they are still alive. Just as COVID-19 has swept through the rest of the world from that dark country, I suspect so will the persecution and everything else.
I believe the coming days will be as dark as the most violent summer storm. The passage I read this morning as part of my time with the Lord was as calming for me as my sleep last night. As all grows dim around me, I have a prevailing peace. I know that my God has a plan. I know that He cares for me and, come what may, I have a place in Heaven.
This is a frightful time to be alive. So many things are happening. Each day is filled with potentially cataclysmic events. I remain strangely calm, even a bit excited. I want to know what the Lord is doing.
Believers, take the time to soak up God’s word today and everyday. Spend some time in prayer. Do not neglect those opportunities to be with other believers. Remember that your God is in control. Take peace in that.
I have found that the word of God has become a daily treat for me. I remember when I was at the Mayo Clinic years ago. I brought my bible into that storm and His word became great consolation for me. That became my battle bible. I would awaken reaching for that bible every morning. There were points in the day when I would look at it longingly, waiting for that time to pore over its contents and find the answers awaiting me.
I have found the God’s word is more handy than whatever the media has to offer. It is ancient and contemporary, relevant then and especially now. I sense that the battle is about to begin. The forces of evil are making their move and change is coming. Take comfort my people! The Lord is digging a pit for them. Now is the time to draw close to the Lord. For this time you have been saved.
For those of you entering this storm without Jesus, know this: Jesus died on the cross for your sins, He was buried and He rose again. You too can have peace in this coming storm. Ask for the forgiveness of your sins. Yes, you are a sinner. Yes, you are bound for hell without Jesus. The most wonderful thing about the Gospel, is that He has given the victory over sin. Jesus has given you the power, through salvation to resist sin, and has taken away the condemnation for those who believe.
The battle is coming. Choose your weapon. I bought a new battle bible last week. I hope it looks as weathered as the old one when all this is done!
