“In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.”
Romans 8:26-30 NASB
Every day that I live is an unfolding mystery, with intricate details revealed as each moment is unfolded before my eyes. In my life there are no guarantees, as anything can happen. I measure my life in moments these days, and seek to get as much as I can out of each segment. It is hard to make plans and I take nothing for granted.
I take great joy that my life and destiny in Christ is assured. As a believer, I know that God hears my prayers. He does not always answer the way that I desire, but He hears me. He also takes my feeble, self centered attempts to petition the God of the Universe, and reconfigures them so that I am praying as I should. As an intercessor, I take comfort that when I pray for others, I am praying to an omniscient God who knows what is going on in the lives of those I am lifting up to him.
As I pray for others, He is interceding with and for me, in ways I cannot understand. He knows the deepest needs in me, even the ones I do not know myself. I have the guarantee that God is for me, and that His way for me is perfect. Even in my darkest hours, when I don’t even know what to pray, I know that Jesus is petitioning on my behalf. He and the Holy Spirit know the will of God for my life, and I have the confidence to trust Him and obey.
When the bad things come, and they have, and will, that trust is manifest in a practical sense as I know that whatever comes into my life it will work for good. I have faced so many health giants over the years, and each one has made me stronger through God, though I have become weaker in body. I have seen the good worked out for my benefit. I have felt the constant refinement and reforming of my inward self, as God has used trial to make me over that I be an ambassador for Jesus, representing His heart wrapped in human flesh.
Believers, I urge you to be about the business of prayer. There are few guarantees in the world, but know that the Lord will hear your prayers, knows the way you should pray, even though you may not. In the interaction of human and God, there is a transaction, an exchange of earthbound will for the will of God. I can tell you, there will be change.
Be encouraged that all things work together for good for those who are the called. I live life with no downside. If the worst comes, it is the best outcome imaginable! I walk with confidence with each unsteady step. My confidence transcends the here and now, is based on the faithfulness of Almighty God.
All that I have endured are all steps as the Lord prepares me for eternity, and uses the process to draw others unto Himself. I glory in my suffering, as it brings me closer to Jesus. I let go of all that I treasured and held dear.
“that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;”
Philippians 3:10 NASB
All that I have experienced has transformed me and I hope it never stops until I see Jesus face to face, regardless of what may come next.
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 NASB
