“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:10‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Each morning I awaken with an increasing sense of the brevity of my time left on this planet. I also have a sense that the world as we know it is about to change in ways we cannot imagine. This morning I woke up early to answer the call of nature and could not get back to sleep. So I grabbed the device from my night table and looked at Twitter, a little Facebook and even a bit of YouTube. I can tell this is not a good choice if you are half awake.

I could see that there is a pattern emerging: the slow motion destruction of a nation. Ironically, the USA is late to the game as the rest of the world has been on that path for years. I saw wanton violence, news about Marxist groups paid by outside forces to destabilize the country, and how people of faith have taken their eyes off the one important thing: the Gospel.

Just when I felt discouraged, and headed for bad day filled with darkness, a ray of light shined through, as I watched a black street preacher in Times Square sharing the Gospel with a hostile crowd. In the face of opposition, he maintained his focus on sharing the good news.

He challenged the Black Lives Matter movement, and told the crowd of the truth of God’s plan of salvation and the problem of sin. He pointed to the irony that he as a black man talking about Jesus was ignored, and even attacked. He proclaimed the plan of salvation clearly and avoided the distraction and face to face confrontation. In the end, the Holy Spirit fell upon that corner and he had the opportunity to lead three people to Jesus.

I was reminded that I have a strong tower in Jesus Christ. That strong tower extends into Heaven and is secure for the righteous. I have peace knowing that my God is in control even in a time when all seems to be out of control. My fleshly eyes see disaster, but my spiritual heart sees the plan of God unfolding.

Believers, it is truly a scary time. It is easy to discouraged by all the news, but rejoice! Our God is a strong tower! He is above and in control of all that we are seeing. In the video of the street preacher he was being physically confronted by people who had chosen alternative lifestyles, by people blinded by the evil one, but he persisted in telling them about Jesus, the one who died for their sins, even while they were yet sinners.

He proved to me that the Gospel is the answer to all that we are dealing with today. That black street preacher was laying it all on the line to present that message in one of the most hostile situations I have seen. He preached on the run, dodging and keeping distance, as several were trying to get his mic. He never missed a beat. He maintained awareness of God’s working and met those who were ready to meet Jesus at that moment.

Pray that the Lord give us that awareness, that ability to see opportunity even the midst of the storm. Through the chants and the screams, listen for the small voice that is whispering, “I need Jesus.”

I have said over and over, day after day, that this is a golden opportunity. Hearts are being rented, made raw and open. It is in our nature to know that things will never be the same again. People are looking for something to cling to in the uncertainty. They are looking for a strong tower. May we be the ones to introduce them to Jesus!

  1. Great contrast Bernie! Thanks for the call to follow our spiritual hearts, rather then our physical eyes. Indeed, we do have a great and strong tower, and the righteous run to it and are safe. Praying for you brother
