“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.”
2 Timothy 3:1-5 NASB
We are there
So much is happening at once. We are seeing the unraveling of the fabric of the country almost over night. There is too much happening at one time for it all to be coincidence. Once again I watched as young people sought to assault the foundations of society. They attacked the courthouse, they tried to attack the capital building, and failing that they went after the business district downtown.
The behavior was organized. There is truly a power behind all of this. It was not political, nor social, it was a power from the pit of hell. This nationwide upheaval has little to do with George Floyd any more. His name is simply an excuse. There are groups empowered by Satan seeking to destabilize humanity and draw the young into destruction.
There was a time when I was like the young people. I frequently let my passions sweep me away. I thought that I had a righteous cause, and I believed that anything was appropriate if it supported that cause. I had a lower calling, one based on my emotions, on fleshly concerns, on what I desired. Typically, there was no thought of the long term implications of what I was doing, or even a real sense of what success would look like. No idea what life would look like if I got what I wanted.
The passage above is being played out before our eyes. Our children are in danger. When I watched the events unfold, I could see an order to everything . This was not some bunch of protesters, making their concerns known, but a concerted effort. At one point I watched a video from the perspective of a leader who was broadcasting on Facebook live. He rode his bicycle, giving orders to those an the march.
This is not a situation that will be dealt with by confrontation, but it is a call to action. I think the Lord is giving His church a warning. Spread the Gospel while there is still time. I find myself spending more and time reading in Ephesians chapter 6. I want to be reminded that I wrestle not against flesh and blood. Those kids are being used by powers they cannot see, and for purposes they cannot fathom. They are bodies to be sacrificed on the altar. Soon, there will be blood.
Once again, we must pray. We must also be about the Father’s business. The time is ticking away and we must redeem every moment. I saw something a couple days ago that struck me. There was a moment when a pastor outside the police station here in Des Moines began to recite the Lord’s Prayer over a bull horn. There was initial jeering, but that stopped when they heard what he was saying. I noticed how the crowd fell much more silent. There is power in the word. We underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit.
Believers, pray and proclaim. We who have been saved know the power of God. Every Sunday I get to see walking miracles, people who have had lives transformed. Social programs can’t do what we have all witnessed. No government can do it. Only God.
When I look at the young people, I see empty shells, vessels waiting to be filled. It is a sign that there is an opening. It is also a sign that we believers have not been as effective in leading our children to the Lord. I learned early in this journey with Jesus, that I was being watched. Every now and then, God would remind me, as someone, out of blue, would tell me how they knew i was a believer. Our kids are watching us.
Fathers, be the godly men you’re saved to be. Mothers, be the godly women you’re saved to be. Singles, be the godly men and women you were saved to be. You may not have kids, but other peoples children are watching you. The unbelieving world is watching you day in and day out, and eternal decisions are being made. In the absence of that consistent witness, the world governed by Satan is drawing our children away. I am soul searching a lot these days. I am looking and asking God to search me.
This is a spiritual war of epic proportions. It is being waged in the heavenly places and the collateral damage is being manifested on the earth. It is time for prayer warriors to step up. Stop and pray. Pray for your sons and daughters. Their lives are in the balance. Pray over the young people in your church. I make a concerted effort to pray for many people. I send out messages to many. I have learned that it is great encouragement when someone tells me they are praying for me.
You know someone going out to demonstrate? Tell them you are praying for them. Are they a believer? Ask them if they prayed. Ask them if they read their bible. Remind their hearts that they belong to Jesus.
I know that this will be an ongoing effort. Results aren’t going to happen over night. I remember my first serious effort at intercession. There was a man that came to my church off and on. The Lord laid it on my heart to pray for him. I began to pray with regularity. Every time he came to church, I told him that I was praying for him. He had the tendency to be swept away by other pursuits and left church. I kept praying. I prayed whether he as in church or not. All praise be to God, he is now a regular attender. I pray for him still.
This situation requires divine intervention. Those of us in the household of faith must be relentless in doing the things that we ought to do. We have access to the God of the Universe. The early church faced great threats at its birth and understood the power of God. They shared the word with boldness. If ever there was a time share the Gospel, it is now. It is time to be as relentless as the enemy as we fight the battle from our knees.
“And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may speak Your word with all confidence, while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.”
