“Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”
Psalms 55:22 NKJV
These are heavy times. Many people are dealing with realities that none of us have ever encountered. I have to admit, there have been days when I have allowed my fears and worries to flow freely through my life. As a result I have had momentary bouts with depression and anxiety. In those days, I become consumed and darkness fills me. Praise be to God, I have learned to run to the cross when the darkness threatens to overwhelm me.
I put on some worship music, take some time to pray, read some Scripture, and before long the light pushes away the darkness. The Lord becomes my burden bearer. When I run to the cross, I am casting my burden on the Lord. In my nearly sixty years (ugh!) I have been wonderfully blessed with great burdens. I say blessed, because it is impossible for me to deal with them. I am completely overwhelmed, and it is only by the power of God that I am able to stand. I have seen Him in His glorious power as He enters my suffering.
The omnipotence of Almighty God is on display as He makes a way for me. It is so amazing. Every morning I am stunned when I sense His presence. Why me? How could Holy God desire the company of such a wretch as me. He enters into my suffering. He is my buttress, my support against the heavy weight of my daily burdens. I take refuge everyday.
As time has gone by, I have learned to run to Him more quickly. In the past I would seek to bear my own burdens. I seldom sought help, and found myself overwhelmed and outmatched by the problems that I faced. In that stress, I found myself doubting God and resorting to sin for release from the pain. Of course sin just brought more pain.
In the prayer chair I get many requests from people who are suffering in this present time of testing. So many are trying to deal with all of this alone. God sent this situation to prove to us that only He can sustain. My prayer for those people is that they relent and cast the burden on the Lord. I also pray that they leave it there in faith, knowing that the Lord has it and will not fail. I can tell you that great peace comes from letting go, and letting God.
I have witnessed the divine intervention of the Lord so many times in my life. From my salvation in Jesus, to my uninterrupted breaths, the Lord is carrying me. He has performed miracles big and small, and I know I can cast my burden on Him. He is faithful. I know I can trust Him.
Believers, be not overwhelmed by the times we are in. Remember that you have a Savior who loves you. Jesus faced all the burdens we face, all the temptations, and demonstrated the things we need to do to survive. He spent time alone with the Father, He prayed, He worshipped, He spent time in the Scriptures. If you know Jesus, His Holy Spirit is in you. Imagine, God in you. Call upon the power, the internal buttress to give you the support. He is an eternal reservoir of strength for those who believe.
You can trust Him. Set no limits, no boundaries with God. Let Him roam freely in your heart and He will give you peace.
You will find your rest in Jesus.
