“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I am not sure if the world has seen such a time as this. Uncertainty has become the byword, and inward realities of people are being exposed. I wrote some time back about this time being a revealer of souls, as people are facing profound pressure and difficulties that are bringing the true nature of hearts to the surface. Many are being shown, the reality that we humans care little for others. Still others are being revealed to be the givers of life as they go out and serve others. This situation is revealing the good and the bad.

It is also showing people if they are truly the people of God that they think they are. I have had the benefit of hell opening up, and spilling onto my life. Most of the really bad things have happened to me. Many unspeakable acts has been done to me, and I have only been spared death. I have suffered great loss. In my trials, I have sought the Lord. I have found time and time again that He is the only way to survive. In the pressure and the strain, the presence of the Lord is spilling forth. He has truly transformed me.

I have also discovered that as, I have faced adversity, I have an urgency to reach out to the other believers who are facing the same troubles. My suffering and my refinement are not for me in my solitude, but for me to share, via my spiritual gifting, with my brothers and sisters. We all face struggles one way or the other. God has given the body of Christ as a blessing for all who believe. We are like a clearing house. Each of us has a gifting, each of us is facing trial, and Jesus has ordained us to carry His love and His power to the body of Christ, and to the world.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:3-4‬ ‭NASB‬‬

In the time of trial, we are to focus on the goodness of our God. I love today’s passage. I can imagine the fledgling church, facing persecution and loss, meeting house to house, filled with believers praying over each other, loving each other, and encouraging each with the word of God. They were not overcome with the issues of the day, but only concerned with helping each other get through the day to the glory of God.

We are in a time when we must be about that same work. Instead, too many of us are disputing over whether or not to wear a mask, or whether the virus is real or not, or whether to lock down, or throw the doors open. The exchanges have become black and white, and lacking grace. There appears no sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. His conviction appears to be forgotten as everyone want to make their point, and not respect opposition.

I receive so many messages about this conspiracy or that. I have taken to asking the sender if the message is about Jesus. Most appear confused until they realize my point. I then tell them that I am choosing to abide in One who has all the answers. My God is sovereign.

Brothers and sisters, now is a time when we must behave as believers. This situation is not one that we can wish away. There is no upside, there will be loss regardless. But, in Jesus, we have peace, we have abundance and there is no loss. I awaken to the presence of the Lord as I put on worship music to start my day. I continue with a large helping of God’s Word, then I take a portion of what I have eaten of the daily bread and encourage others. I then pray for as many people as I can. I end the day with worship before I go to bed. Even that I share.

Take some time today to seek the Lord and use this wonderful platform of social media to teach and admonish each other in Scripture and spiritual songs. Christ will dwell in you richly. I am enjoying this season of intimacy with the Lord. With each passing day, I desire nothing to come between me and His joy. I also want others to have that same peace and joy in the midst of great sorrow. Our God is truly faithful!

Let’s be aware of one another. Let’s consider the world beyond our noses. I was once one who cared little about others. Now I weep with those who weep, I hurt over the hurts of others, I validate the concerns of my brothers and sisters, though I may not agree. As an ambassador of Jesus Christ to world, I seek to edify the believers and love the sinners who are bound for hell with out Jesus. I don’t want disputing to turn a soul from the saving grace of God.

Let’s huddle and support one another! In the body, we have strength as we abide.

Pray for the opportunity to encourage someone today!

THE PRAYER CHAIR IS OPEN! Send me your requests!

  1. Always a great and well-balanced Bible perspective Bernie! Thanks so much for your ministry!! I have a friend who is struggling to deal with the happenings of our current time. He is a believer, but has not been allowed to go to church yet, because of his criminal status. I’m going to forward this to him, because I believe it will be a great encouragement to him.

Will you please pray for the Lord to use me this morning, as I attempt to finish the fifth, and last devotional video called “under pressure – do good” from 1 Peter 2:15?

    Thanks so much my friend!
