“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.”
Psalms 42:11 NKJV
God has been my support, my guardian, my fortress, my encouragement, my help. With every step, I have learned that He is more than faithful, stronger than any problem is troubling. There are days when I have awakened with my eyes focused on the prospects as seen through my vision, bound by flesh. Then I seek the Lord, and He lifts me.
I try to build reminders in my life to turn my attention to the Lord. Back when I worked, I covered the bulletin board in my office with Scriptures to remind me through the day to look to the Lord. As I hope in Jesus, all that is disquieting in me ceases. The peace that is beyond all understanding, fills me and my perspective changes. The darkness is flooded with light, and I see glimmers of hope in all things.
I am sad when I find myself taking my eyes off Him and looking at my reality through my eyes of flesh. When I do this, stress and doubt fill me and joy is replaced by fear. In these times I am thankful for the power of the Holy Spirit, bringing light into darkness and urging me toward worship. As I bow myself low, the Lord lifts my heart.
I am reminded of those in the faith who have not the privileges that I have. I sit in a chair with more than twenty bibles nearby. In some places, even having a Gospel tract can get you arrested or even killed. We have so much to be thankful for, as our world is going through changes.
Believers, I urge you to avail yourselves of your access to God, of the strong bulwark that He has provided you. Do not be alarmed by the happenings of this present time. Our Jesus has overcome the world.
Do not hold fear for the future, so not to be distracted by speculations and worries over things that have not come to pass. Rejoice in the reality that our God is working in the here and now, and in the future.
Is your soul cast down? Consider Jesus. He is there for you! I can attest to the good things He has done for me. I live with no reserve, yet I have no want. He has met every need.
Open your bible today! It is filled with examples of God’s faithfulness and all that He has done for His people. You will find great encouragement.
There are days when I wonder why God brought so many difficulties into my life. In the midst of those trials, I have often found myself crying out to God, through tears, asking, “why!” In this time of idleness and relative peace, I have learned that He was preparing me for now. He is using every pain, every trouble and every tear for His glory as I tell of His power and grace as shown in my life.
I count all loss as gain, as I joyfully write of the love and faithfulness of my great God! Know that you can count on Him. Know that He is your support, your bulwark in the storms of life, even this present storm that our world finds itself in.
“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.””
Deuteronomy 31:6 NASB
