“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’”
Isaiah 41:10 NKJV
The Lord has lifted me from the valley and I know that He is always near. Whatever situation I find myself in, I know that God knew of it long before it’s inception. He knew the steps that would deliver me to that time and place, and He knew how I would deal with it, and He had provision to deliver me through it.
That knowledge of the omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience of Almighty God, gives me the confidence to face all things. Each day, for me is a mystery. I have nothing that I can count on, not even my next breath. I do know that I am bound for Heaven, thanks to Jesus Christ’s atoning death on the cross, His burial and the power of His resurrection.
I take every step as a step of faith, a faith that is based in surety. We are surely in a time of uncertainty. We desire to get back to life as before. I doubt that we will ever go back to how life used to be. The very paradigm of life in this world will be forever changed.
As believers, we are at a point in history where our faith can no longer be a compartment that we raid when we feel like it. In the future it will not be a matter of dusting off our bibles on Sunday, saying hallelujah with a mouth that the day before grumbled about the governments handing of this present situation. Our faith will need to be all consuming. The very basic conduct of life will require unwavering abiding in our faithful God.
This situation is poking at idols. Idols of work, business, money, status and every other thing we place higher than our God. The Lord has sent a plague on this world, like He did in Egypt. Like then, He is attacking all the Gods that humanity holds dear.
I know about idol poking. I shuddered as God began to topple the little gods that I had erected in my life. I was young, big and strong. God attacked each one. Now I am old, a bit smaller, and weak.
My idols have been poked and are no more. I remember all the times I cried out to the Lord, as my own paradigm shifted. The forecast I had set for my life was changed. It is only through abiding in God, that I am able to see life clearly.
Today, I rejoice in the possibility of what God is going to do. I go back to the children of Israel enslaved in Egypt, and how God’s onslaught on the idols of that land freed God’s people. In the breaking of my idols, my God has set me free. I am free of the concerns of this world, that have enslaved me in the past. I learned that I can’t fix anything, and really provided nothing to my life. The very strength that carried me through work days, came from the Lord. Very seldom did I acknowledge Him.
He freed me to worship Him. I am living Matthew 6:33: Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. All the other things in life are given to me.
I marvel at how the Lord knows of the little things that thrill me: a new piece of music, a favorite food, birds flying in the air, the kindness of people to people.
Believers, know that He is for you. He has presented all of this to cause you to cease worshipping lesser gods, and turn to Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith.
Look past the here and now. Consider the joy of eternity. I sit as one not considering too far in advance, but rejoicing each day, and wondering what joy the Lord will bring. If you ate today, rejoice! If you awoke from a warm bed, rejoice! If you have a roof over your head, rejoice. There are many who do not have that…and many of them still rejoice.
