“If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.””
Joshua 24:15 NASB
There are moments in a life that clarify and define what one really believes. In the good times, it is easy to hold allegiances to different faith systems. There is no pressure that causing us to have to rely on the core of what we believe. Right now the world is in a situation where there is an unseen enemy that has the potential to kill. Suddenly people are assessing the idols that they have chosen to worship.
For most of my adult life, I worshipped at the temple of self. In my delusion, I thought this god could do anything, that he was unfailing. Time and tumult, proved the shortcomings of my god. I failed time and time again, and more and more I ran into circumstances that were out of my control. A very destructive relationship, years ago, shook my world and caused me to cast doubt on my gods ability to carry me through the emotion pain I experienced.
Out of that deep hurt, the God of my Salvation began to use the inner pain to draw me unto Himself. I went from worshipping the faulty god of self to falling on my knees, face down, before Jesus, the King of Glory.
We are in the season of choices. Many will continue seeking after other gods. Many more, will seek to follow the god of self and go it alone. This world wide trial is going to push humanity to the brink. These are trying times indeed. Regardless of the god, the choice will be made.
I have peace in my choice to serve the Lord. I have seen His faithfulness in even the darkest of times. He has proven a far more reliable God than the one I used to worship. I can’t imagine what I would do if I did not have the Lord at this time. I COVID19 were to take me I have the assurance that I would be with my Lord and that healing would be beyond the temporal, and would be eternal.
Once again, believer, know that God is for you! Joshua testified of God’s goodness at the end of a long life where he saw the deliverance of the children of Israel from captivity, the sustenance provided by the Lord in the wilderness, and the victory over enemies standing between them and the promised land.
Many of the people reading this know of God’s goodness and His faithfulness. We also know of the multitudes who have gone before us , through storm and sunshine, to compete the race and join the Lord.
Jesus, I plead with you to give us the opportunity to proclaim your glorious name before the world, wrought with fear and running after powerless gods. This is your time! May we choose this day the God we will serve. As for me and my house, I will serve the Lord!
