Reiteration

““When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you. When you are approaching the battle, the priest shall come near and speak to the people. He shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, you are approaching the battle against your enemies today. Do not be fainthearted. Do not be afraid, or panic, or tremble before them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭20:1-4‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Reiteration

God makes the important points over and over. He knows that I am a stiff-necked man, with an overwhelming desire to fall back on the fearful tendencies of my past. When I read the Bible, I am awed at His persistence in making sure I internalize the truth of His word. God reiterates over and over what I need to know, how I need to be and that His ways are perfect and unchanging.

As each day goes by, the depth of the world wide crisis becomes clear. This is a situation that will not be over soon. It will be long, difficult and stability will require an unwavering attention to the Lord and His word.

The children of Israel were faced with frightening times as the day of battle with a vast enemy neared. God repeatedly assured them of His faithfulness and that they need not fear. He urged them not to panic, tremble or be afraid.

Even with my memory of past victories, I need to be daily reminded that He will be there for me, and that God is in control. I am deliberate in making time to read the word of God. The passages that are coming up in my year long reading plan are just the ones I need and I know this is not a coincidence. This moment was ordained from the foundation of creation. God is never taken by surprise.

Yesterday I found myself pondering the eternal sovereignty of God and how He has used so many things in my life to lead me to this time. If my kidneys had not failed, placing me on dialysis, there would have been no prayer chair, if I were still working, there would be no time for prolonged study of God’s word as I have.

In the midst of this trial don’t get bogged down by the fear, but instead ask the Lord to show you what He is doing and how it can be used for His glory. I said yesterday that this is a golden opportunity for the church of Jesus Christ to share the Gospel in word and deed. People are concerned about living and dying. It is fertile soil for the planting of seeds of faith. It is also a golden time to show the love of Jesus to people who previously only knew the promise of eternal judgement.

There is victory to be had over a vast, unseen enemy. I am not referring to COVID-19, but the enemy of spiritual death and eternal separation from Christ in hell. Sin is the real disease, the real threat and forgiveness of sins in Jesus Christ is the only cure. Let us not take our eyes off the prize.

Open your bible today and be reminded of what the Lord has done. He is going before us into the battle, He is at the end of the struggle just as He was at the beginning. Do not fear!

THE PRAYER CHAIR IS OPEN! Send me your requests!
