Prayer for revival

“Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that You, O LORD, are God, and that You have turned their heart back again.” Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “The LORD, He is God; the LORD, He is God.””
‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭18:37-39‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Prayer for revival

Lord, when Elijah prayed, you heard and sent fire from heaven, consuming everything on the altar. Your power manifested and magnified turned the hearts of the people who fell on their faces and turned their hearts back to You.

Like the Children of Israel, we have allowed our hearts to turned away. We have gone after other gods: gods of money, gods of sexuality, gods of self, gods of anything that makes us feel good, mildly satisfied, and self worthy. These insatiable gods have left us empty and constantly in search of some spectacular sensation to fill the increasing void.

Lord, begin with the Church. Your Bride has soiled herself, allowed her views to be twisted and obfuscated to allow for any twisted behavior. She has sought the favor of the world, to be accepted to see her membership rolls increase. So many devoted men and women of God struggle when the numbers don’t add. So many have compromised.

Take us back to the first things, Lord. Remind us of those first baby steps when we boldly went forth with the Gospel in the face of enemies, fearlessly speaking the word of truth. Help us not to knuckle under to a world view that desires that we be quiet. May we call on You like our forerunners, facing grave threats, giving you the glory and knowing that you are in control.

“And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭4:31‬ ‭NASB‬‬

You rocked us like a mother gently rocking her baby. We need to call on you not only corporately, but each individually. Lord deal with the things that we have crowded on our dusty altars, unused. We have tied up space on the altar of our hearts with storage. Bring fire down on that altar, the altar of our hearts. Burn away all that separates us from you.

We in the church have become dead, dark, and so busy that we no longer see who You are, whose we are, and that we need to look to You.

Please remind us again of the first things, the essential things. The Word of God and the majesty of it. May it be the source of our clarity and our understanding. It is to be the daily guide of our lives. May your word have preeminence over all other half truths of the world system as Yours is the only truth.

God set a new standard for us, a new measure, one determined by Your righteousness. Transform our minds and hearts to desire that new standard and urge us forward. May we have no appetite for the status quo, a desire to seek higher ground.

Invade our families, Lord. Win back the territory lost to the evil one. Cleanse households where spouses cheat on spouses, parents speak Holy in Sunday in church but live like the devil in the home. Our children are watching us. May each of us married or single desire to leave a legacy based on You. Break the hearts of parents for their children.

I pray for Holy Spirit conviction to
flood the church, flood into homes, flood the people, flood me. May we the revived children of the Most High God go out with the message of Gospel leading people to You Lord Jesus.

Make us salty, that we bring your preserving message to thirsty and decaying world. As we go out, continually transform our hearts that seek a closer intimacy for you. Let us not be simply religious, following rules with no heart, but intimately involved with a loving Creator who desires to meet with us. May the closeness allow us to bask in your glory and see ourselves l as you see us. May the light of Your glory also show the stains of sin that we need to surrender.

Bring your fire upon our altar Lord, like You did for Elijah. Help us be bold in turning our hearts to You!

May your greatest conversion be the one of your Church.
